Share the text, hide the personal details

PII is any detail that points to a real person: a name, an email address, a phone number, a home address, an ID number. Paste your text or JSON below and this tool covers those details up, so you can share or paste with confidence.

Your detector

Describe extra PII in plain English - it compiles into a local pattern instantly.
No custom rules yet. The built-in check covers nine PII types in six languages - add rules for the IDs only you use, like order numbers or badge codes. Rules stay in this browser.
The basics

What counts as personal details

If a stranger could use it to find, contact, or pretend to be someone, treat it as PII.

How it works

How the PII masking works

Four steps from paste to masked copy, all in your browser.

You paste

Text or JSON, in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, or Spanish. It stays on this page.

It checks shapes and labels

Email addresses, phone numbers, dates, and ID numbers all have shapes. Labels like Name:, Email:, or Tel: - also Naam, Nom, Nombre, Nome, and Vorname - say what the value next to them is.

You check the pills

Each kind found gets a pill with a count. The highlights view shows every value where it sits.

You copy it back

The masked copy keeps JSON valid. First describe your own ID shapes in plain English if you need them covered too.

Honest scope

What it catches, and what it can miss

A local checker is fast and private, but it is not perfect. Always glance at the highlights before you share.

What it catches
  • Names and usernames
  • Emails, phones, links, and IP addresses
  • Addresses, dates, and ID or account numbers
  • Passwords, PIN codes, and keys
  • Your own ID shapes, once you describe them
What it can miss
  • A detail with no clear shape, like a school name in a sentence
  • A name in a language the tool does not read
  • Anything you never pasted here

No. The check and the masking run on this page. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and closing the tab throws the text away.
